内容記述 | Nankai Fore-arc Sliver is one of typical microplates observed in the western Pacific and is bounded on the south by Nankai Trough where Philippine Sea Plate (PSP) subducts obliquely under southwestern Japan, on the north by the Median Tectonic Line where a right-lateral strike-slip faulting develops between the sliver and the inner belt of southwestern Japan, on the east by lateral extension of Kumano fore-arc basin, and on the west by subduction of the the western edge of the sliver under Kyushu Island of Ryukyu arc. Nankai Fore-arc Sliver has heavier nature in its basal part, because the whole oceanic crust of the sinking slab of PSP has been broken down by underthrusting or decollement and later included into the base of the sliver in relatively shallow depths. This is the reason why Nankai Fore-arc Sliver subducts smoothly under Kyushu at Bungo Strait.Timing of oblique subduction of PSP commenced between 1.5 and 0.9 Ma BP. There is no reason to believe large time lag between new cycle of subduction and formation of the sliver. Spontaneous vertical displacement of Shikoku coastal mountains by the new cycle of subduction can be explained by viscoelastic deformation theory of Sato and Matsuura. Shikoku coastal mountains has been uplifted with an remnant peneplain in the summit level of 1500m high since 0.9 Ma BP. Deposition of red conglomerates at the foot of the mountains and thick silt-clay sediments at the fore-arc basins such as Tosa Basin are all eroded products from the uplifted mountains. They are typical molasse sediments of the classical mountain building theory. | |||||
