| 内容記述 | Istiblennius edentulus is the most abundant blenny in the rocky shore areas of Kochi Prefecture. Specimens (n=258) were collected from rock pools at Shiranohana on Yokonami Peninsula, Kochi Prefecture, from May to October 1998. The specimens ranged from 16.7 mm to 116.8 mm standard length (SL). Newly recruited fishes smaller than 20 mm SL were found in August, As SL increased up to 20 mm, the length and complexity of the digestive tract and the number of teeth all rapidly increased. As SL increased beyond 20 mm SL, the length of the digestive tract and the number of teeth continued to increased, but at a slower rate, while the complexity of the digestive tract did not change. Although large fishes occasionally ingested copepods and small benthic animals, this species seemed to be an algal grazer, mainly feeding on attached pennate diatoms. However, the genera of diatoms found in the digestive tract slightly changed with fish growth and seasons. | |||||
