Both flutes come from musical traditions where they are played solo as well as togetherwith stringed instruments, and a flute in the key of D is the one most commonly used in both cultures.Both come from countries where music traditions have often been handed down within particular familiesand share similar playing techniques. In recent years longer flutes of both varieties have been increasinglyused.
