| 内容記述 | Seagrass beds, a major feature of shallow marine and estuarine areas in tropical and temperate zones worldwide, play important ecological roles, including provision of oxygen, sediment stabilization, seawater purification, and provision of nursery habitats for many fishes and crustaceans, including some commercially important species. In recent years, however, seagrass beds have drastically declined worldwide, mainly due to anthropogenic impacts (e.g. marine pollution) resulting from increased coastal populations. The decline of a seagrass bed often affects not only immediate populations of seagrass bed-associated organisms but also those in other habitats, thereby having potentially negative influences on biodiversity and local fisheries. In order to protect seagrass ecosystems, environmental education, management of human activities that stress seagrass ecosystems, and establishment of appropriately protected areas, are urgently required. | |||||
